“This is Real. This is us.” ~Nadine Burke Harris

I stumbled upon this video earlier today. Its brutal honesty about childhood trauma has ignited an old scar for me.

As a child, I was surrounded by what seemed like endless negativity. There were some happy  moments of course, but what stuck were the mental wounds that took time to heal. With the help from myself, therapists, professionals, and friends, did I slowly shed that weight of pain.

Never underestimate the power of hope, kindness, and love, those inner strengths we all have. My past is what has shaped me and I can only be thankful for who I have become.

Everyday I strive to be the best mother I can be, not only because I never had that growing up, but because  every child deserves to be loved by their parents.
